Simple 6 Ingredient Lasagna

Shout out to my mama for this recipe. She does not love to cook, but she did make sure we ate home cooked meals. This is the lasagna recipe she always made, but even more simplified. During the week, when I’m trying to get dinner on the table and do all the things, this recipe is the best.

A couple of awesome hacks I want to share! Sometimes I split this recipe in two 8X8 casserole dishes and put one in the freezer before baking. Then I can pull it out at a future date and voila I’ve got dinner! Or… sometimes I make this casserole a day or two ahead of time and just leave it in the refrigerator for the day I want to make it. When we’ve gone on trips out of town, I can make this ahead of time and just throw it in the oven at the place we’re staying.

Just a warning, this is NOT a fancy lasagna. Gordan Ramsey would probably hate it LOL. But, I think it’s pretty damn delicious and so does my family. You can’t beat the simplicity!

Ingredients

  • 32 oz jar of marinara sauce

  • 16 oz log of mozzarella cheese, sliced

  • 15 oz of ricotta cheese

  • 1 lb ground beef

  • 1lb ground Italian pork sausage (if you can't find bulk sausage, you can buy sausages and remove the casing)

  • Half a package of lasagna noodles

Directions

  1. Cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions. Dump out the hot water and fill the pot with cold water so the noodles stop cooking and don't stick together.

  2. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

  3. Brown the ground beef and pork sausage together in a skillet.

  4. Once the meat is cooked, add the marinara sauce and simmer on low for about 30 minutes or until the sauce has thickened a little.

  5. Next layer the ingredients in a 9x13 baking dish. First add 1/3 of the meat sauce. Then, add the sliced cheese and dollops of ricotta cheese. Dry the noodles with a paper towel and place a layer of noodles. Next, add another layer of 1/3 of the meat sauce. Put cheese on top of that and then noodles again. Add the last layer of meat sauce and a final layer of cheeses.

  6. Bake at 350 degrees for at least 30 min, or until bubbly and the cheese has melted.
